iPads and iPhones could impact the future passport system

Post 07 January 2012 - By   Panzer Kumar

Mr. Reisch a Canadian has used his iPhone containing his scanned image of his passport to cross US-Canadian border. The Canadian has shown border security officers his iPhone as he forgot to bring his passport on his Christmas visit to America.

Media says he informed the officers that he was on his way to Vermont so he can deliver Christmas day gifts.

But US Customs said he crossed using a driving license and birth certificate.
However the US Customs department has stated that he was allowed considering  solely a scanned image on iPad but for he had his driving license and birth certificate with which his identity and the nationality was determined before he was allowed to cross the border.

To add more to this interesting and controversial incident Mr Reisch said he was not having his Birth Certificate during that time, furthermore he believes that the officers allowed he was permitted to cross the border because of his rightful reason and his scanned image as he told the officers may have had an exception for him.

The Canadian also stated that he saved a scanned copy of his Passport in case he missed or lost his passport and it helped him in right time. He also said the future will hopefully permit carrying passports and other legal proofs on iPod and related iPhone like digital devices.

Experts on digital devices like iPads and iPhones think this strange incident will add up to the already heating up Mobile applications development as proper applications are needed to improve digital devices to meet these dreams of future mobile technology.
