POSITION SUMMARY: Design, code, test, debug, and document software applications. Devise or modify procedures to solve complex problems considering computer equipment capacity and limitations, operating time, and desired results. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Plan, design, develop, modify, debug and evaluate complex software for functional areas. Analyze existing software or work to formulate logic for new complex systems and devises complex algorithms. Perform complex data analysis and test/debug complex software. Analyze the design and use of complex data sources. Apply moderately complex programming security practices. Develop and execute moderately complex test plans Develop conversion and system implementation plans. Train users in conversion and implementation of system. Perform complex data modeling, performance and integration testing and builds interfaces for a variety of internal and external constituents. Monitor and employ source code control techniques and configuration management. Gather, analyze, prepare and summarize recommendations for approval of system and programming documentation. Recommend and implement changes in development, maintenance and system standards. Negotiate with stakeholders on the creation of software specifications. Understand and apply industry practices, architectural standards and department policies and procedures relating to work assignments. Interact with senior level internal personnel. May serve as technical lead for a software development project of moderate scope. Train users in conversion and implementation of systems. Negotiate project plans with stakeholders. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Experience with Core Java, Java 8, J2EE, Spring framework Spring Boot. Experience with creating and consuming RESTful, CSS, JavaScript, Query, and hybrid APIs using OAuth 2.0, Ready API Knowledge of secure software development. Advanced skills associated with software design, modification, implementation and deployment, including object-oriented programming concepts. Demonstrated ability to develop conversion and system implementation plans. Demonstrated ability to understand functional needs and how systems can support those needs. Must be able to interface with management on a regular basis. Demonstrated ability to create software specifications. Demonstrated ability to contribute technical narrative to grant proposals. Thorough experience with identification and use of code libraries and open-source forums. Demonstrated software repository skills. Experience with planning for deployment and creation of feedback mechanisms. Demonstrated testing and test planning skills. Thorough experience with common programming tools. Demonstrated ability to follow software specifications. Self-motivated and work independently and as part of a team. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Intermediate ability to effectively present technical topics to small and medium size technical groups. Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels of the organization. Works under broad supervision on priorities and short-term goals. REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/ Information Technology or related field OR 4 years of relevant experience OR a combination of college education and relevant work experience equivalent to 4 years. Typically 5 - 7 years of development experience. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 6 or more years of Java development experience. Guidewire Claims, Policy or Billing Center experience. Hands on experience with GOSU & Query API Advanced knowledge of secure software development. Demonstrated broad problem solving skills. Knowledge or experience in Property & Casualty Insurance. Knowledge of core CS concepts such as: common data structures and algorithms, profiling/optimization, cost optimization problems/machine learning Proficient with writing clean, well-organized code, following industry standard coding practices (SOLID) and security guidelines (OWASP) Hands-on experience with the latest technologies and delivery methodologies: microservices, AWS, docker, Angular 2 or 4
