Rumor has it that Apple is working on its smart watch concept also commonly referred to as the “iWatch” since late 2012. As it appears, the company seems to have accelerated the speed of its work on this innovation as it has been eager to expand its array of mobile devices to the wrist. Apple however has started trade marking the name in some of the countries in lieu of a late 2014 introduction; some reports say it could be in October.

Reports from sources like Reuters and The Wall Street Journal say that the iWatch comes in multiple screen sizes, in sizes up to 2.5 inches diagonally, which is the size of the current-generation iPod nano. The iWatch dial, that is slightly rectangular, will protrude faintly from a band creating an arch shape on the wrist.

The good news for gadget lovers is that along with multiple sizes, the iWatch will also be available at different price points, signifying a wide range of different band and face options in different materials to position it more as a fashion accessory.

It has been reported that the iWatch will be capable of performing several tasks independently; however the watch will be dependent on a compatible iOS device for functions like voice calls, receiving messages and notifications. Some of the unique features of the iWatch includes wireless charging capabilities, advanced mapping abilities, and probably the NFC integration.

Even though the iWatch follows the league of the iPhone and iPad, the iWatch will be able to measure multiple different health-related metrics as well that includes measurement of steps taken, calories burned, sleep quality, heart rate, and much more. The device is said to comprise of 10 different sensors that will perform the function of tracking health and fitness, providing an overall picture of health and making the health-tracking experience more accessible to the public.

Sources reveal that Apple has designed the iOS 8 with the iWatch in mind, and the two are said to be greatly dependent on one another. The iWatch is expected to take advantage of the “Health” app introduced with iOS 8, which will display all of the health-related information gathered by the watch.

Currently, Apple is getting ready to begin mass production on the iWatch, and is actively working on testing the device’s fitness capabilities with professional athletes such as Kobe Bryant, who is most likely expected to promote the iWatch following its release.

Besides Apple is allegedly working to overcome quite a few issues with its iWatch development, which has had obstacles in battery life, display technology, and manufacturing technique.

For all the female readers of our blog, the good news is that in recent months, Apple has also extended its “Apple” trademark to cover jewelry and watches in countries like Ecuador, Mexico, Norway, and the United Kingdom. Let us hope that the Apple jewellery hits stores near us real soon so that we all get a chance to trend a gold or platinum ‘iWatch’ real soon.
