Gates handed over the CEO role to Ballmer in 2000, and took up as the chairman in February. He continues to remain in the board and spends one third of his time as a technology adviser to new the Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.

Ballmer, one of the first hires of Mr. Gates’ was Microsoft’s CEO until earlier this year.
